Workshop 3: The Art of Observation (without which we cannot correct the small details that count)

As we are constantly improving what and how we teach within the perfect guidelines of Joseph Pilates’ key principles (without which, we cannot assume to be teaching “Pilates”), Swissbody has adapted certain exercises in the “Matwork” programme so as to render them more logical for functional movement.

During the first part of the workshop the aim will be:

– Study the classical human body proportions (by learning to draw the body)
– Analyse correct alignment (by learning to see the geometrical lines that pass through the body).
– Become aware of the importance of breathing, synchronisation and co-ordination for optimal physical results.

The second part of the workshop we will study the following theme:

”Everything that we do in our Matwork should be logically functional so as so prepare the body for the standing position.”

– We are going to revisit some of the Swissbody® Pilates Matwork exercises and learn the adaptations or changes that have been implemented.
– We will observe the symmetrical alignment with the central body axis of each exercise so as to analyse its functionality in the vertical position.

About Cav. Giuseppe Arena:

After a career as Premier Danseur, Maestro Arena has worked many years abroad (Russia, England, Italy, UAE, etc.) as a choreographer and artistic director for television, theatre (ballet and drama), cinema, artistic ice skating at the highest level and for big events such as the ” Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympics and Paralympics, Torino 2006″. More recently, while working in his free time at Swissbody®, Maestro Arena, has been working (amongst other projects) for the Russian Olympic Committee as artistic director and choreographer for the Russian figure skating team in preparation for the next Winter Olympics Games.

Giuseppe has created a programme based on his many years of experience as an artist, designer, dancer, choreographer and trainer of the world’s top athletes.

The idea of the course is to heighten the participants awareness of proportions (part of the course will be learning to draw the human body by learning the classical physical proportions), correct alignement (how to see the lines that go through the body for correct postural alignement) as well as the huge importance of synchronisation and breathing which also helps to better understand alignment.
