Workshop 5: Pilates for the Elderly

Susan Pepper Arena has been teaching remedial exercises and Pilates to elderly people since 1986. For over 30 years she has acquired a vast experience in how to correctly and SAFELY work with people who are well over 60 years of age. As the human population is aging and people are more and more conscious of the importance of exercise at all ages, more and more people are going to be doing exercise regularly for their entire lives. All movement specialists will be working with an ever-increasing number of aging clients who will need to do correctly ADAPTED exercises that will keep their bodies healthy and strong without the danger of injuries.

During this course Susan will talk about the physical changes of the body due to aging, the psychological aspect of working with elderly people, how the exercise routine should be adapted and individualised (with a difference between men and women) as the years advance and even how one can still teach exercises to aging people who are in a wheel chair or bedridden to help them to be more physically comfortable and psychologically more positive.
